OS Flashback: EPMD – Symphony 2000 (feat. Redman, Method Man & Lady Luck)

In 1999, Erick and Parrish Making Dollars were going “Out of Business” (literally and figuratively) with their last album before the duo’s second breakup. One of our most played tracks from the project was the Symphony 2000 cut that featured battle rapper Lady Luck, Tical and Reggie. Themed from classic horror films, our favorite part was Lady Luck reenacting the promo scene from “Carrie” where a bucket of blood landed on her all white dress and she continued to rap like it was nothing.

Enjoy the flashback above from the L.I. legends EPMD.

It’s coincidental we get a new track from Reggie, considering only 2 days ago, we were paying homage to his I’ll Be Dat video. This should hold you over until we get more information on the long-awaited Muddy Waters II: Even Muddier album.

OS Flashback: Redman – I’ll Bee Dat

My first name must be “He Ain’t Shit!” because we’re flashing back to 1998 with Redman’s first single from Doc’s Da Name 2000. Funk Doc was already on his fourth album when this dropped, with Rockwilder providing the production for the double platinum smash.

“I’ll Bee Dat” was ultimately the most successful track off the project, but there were plenty of bangers on there. Redman was always coming correct.

OS Flashback: LL Cool J – 4, 3, 2, 1 (feat. Method Man, Redman & DMX)

Def Jam was in full effect in 1997, as LL Cool J and the likes of Method Man, Redman and DMX connected through the “4, 3, 2, 1″ single from his Phenomenon album. This track was a classic for a variety of different things. For one, it was the introduction of DMX. It also sparked a beef between LL and Canibus, who was originally featured on the song but was left off of the video because of the lines in his verse.

LL found one line disrespectful, and told Can to switch it up but he didn’t. This sparked a feud between the two, enough that diss records were made following.

Fans ate it up at the time, and it only propelled the record. Here’s one to LL.

Redman & The Game Celebrate 2013 HIGH TIMES Medical Cannabis Cup

Due to opposition by the LAPD, the 2013 HIGH TIMES Medical Cannabis Cup had to be moved to San Bernardino, CA this past weekend. That didn’t stop weedheads like Redman and The Game from celebrating, as they can be seen in the clip above, smoking and talking shit on stage right before a small performance of “This Is How We Do.”

The crazy release of videos continues this week as we said goodbye to November and dove in to the Christmas ready December. The 4th quarter is coming to a close very quickly, and this is when it’s crunch time for some artists. Some A-list rappers stepped up to the plate again, but the new blood continues to impress week by week.

The craziest video of the week goes to a producer, though. But expect to see Pittsburgh, Philly, New Jersey, the Bay Area, and Queens all representing.

Redman Announces “Muddy Waters II: Even Muddier”

Can you believe it’s been 20 years since Redman released his first studio album? Well today on twitter the Reggie announced plans to release a follow-up to his 1996 classic “Muddy Waters,” as he preps up “Muddy Waters II: Even Muddier.” In the past, Funk Doc’s teased about doing a sequel to the original, but with artwork and an official announcement, it looks like Reggie is officially back in grind mode.

Look out for his new Gilla House Mixtape to release as he stated on twitter as well in part of his 20th anniversary campaign. We can’t wait to hear the new music from Reggie!

Eminem Has Gained The Respect From Redman, As An MC

Before the Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap documentary airs tonight on VH1, here is another preview of the Ice-T film, from a conversation he had with Redman. In the clip, Mr. Cop Killer asks Redman who gained his respect as an MC from the new crop of artists and Red quickly responds with Eminem (remember “Off The Wall“??)

He mentions KRS-One and Slick Rick as his mentors, but Em got his nod because he always kept it G with the people on the bottom, and stayed in the hood (Redman remembers him running through Newark, New Jersey with The Outsidaz) even though he could have sold out and went mainstream from the jump.

Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap airs tonight at 9 PM EST on VH1.
