March is almost over, but Philly Freeze has just dropped some new heat for us today. The first single off In The Booth links Alex Lustig for the cold piano that lets Freeway give is that new. With more from this series around the corner, expect artists on deck that might surprise you.
Can you believe that Freeway’s debut album Philadelphia Freeway was released 10 years ago to the day? Back in 2003 when State Property had the rap game in a chokehold. The Roc-A-Fella release was mostly produced by Just Blaze (Kanye West & Bink! too) and spawned the single “What We Do” with Hov & Beans, as well as the party starter “Flipside.”
We still remember hearing a few tracks from the album on mixtapes before hand (“Free” mixtape version was different than the album intro), bringing the likes of Snoop Dogg, Faith Evans, Nate Dogg, Jay-Z, Nelly and more all for the project. “Alright” with Allen Anthony was probably one of the tracks that got the most burn from us.
For the visual to “What We Do,” Free brought various characters from HBO’s The Wire (Boadie, what up!) for the video, really setting this shit off for the debut single. We still remember watching this come on BET like it was yesterday.
So as you go about the rest of your day today, spin Philadelphia Freeway and go back to State Prop back ’03 for Freeway one time.
OS Flashback: Jagged Edge – Where The Party At? (feat. Nelly)
The two Philly emcees team up for this hard knocking, futuristic record. Produced by Phoe Notes, not sure where this record will end up but when these two get behind the mic and on a beat like this, you can’t exactly go wrong.
One of your favorite “hip-hop beard bearer’s” released a new record from the vault shortly after his stop by DJ Eclipse‘s Rap Is Outta Control Sirius XM show. Expect from Mr. Frost this year but, for now, enjoy this one with a little help from The Beard Gang.
It’s barely been a month since Freeway released his fourth studio album Diamond In The Ruff, but Christmas is full of surprises and so is the veteran rapper. The artist from Philadelphia releases a brand new EP titled Black Santa on the eve of the big day. Along with sublime artwork, the project is handled production-wise by Jake One, Statik Selektah, Gillie The Kid, Young Chris and more. This is definitely one to be added to your playlist over the holidays.
Stream and download the EP after the jump.
