Who doesn’t love some lost footage of our favorite artists resurfacing 12 years later? Tim Westwood took to YouTube earlier today and uploaded some rare footage of Slim Shady and Dr. Dre lettin’ loose at a London club back in 2001.
Kickin’ it in VIP at a Tim Westwood party in an unknown club, Eminem has a drink in one hand and a middle finger in another while Dr. Dre has a mean mug on tilt, as the two of them do their own version of ‘ratchet’ in ’01.

Retaining his crown as the wealthiest hip-hop artist alive, P. Diddy is number 1 once again, topping the 2013 list of rappers with the largest bank accounts. With his record label Bad Boy Records releasing MGK’s “Lace Up” and the long-awaited debut album from French Montana “Excuse My French”, the 20+ year vet has remained one of the top heavyweights in the industry. The face of the popular Ciroc vodka brand, has been a cash-cow over the past few years.

3. Andre “Dr. Dre” Young ($350 million)

Landing in at number 2 was the Jiggman, who had a successful year touring the world with Kanye West and Hit-Boy, continuing their “Niggas In Paris” wave from 2011 into 2012, as well as Jay’s run for the official opening of Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. An interesting note is the $80 million dollar increase Dr. Dre acquired this year in comparison to last year, obviously due to his Beats By Dre headphone collection as well as the first album under Aftermath in over 2 years, Kendrick Lamar’s debut opus, “good kid, m.A.A.d city.”

Dr. Dre Talks New Music-Subscription Service & Eminem’s New Album
Remember the last time Dr. Dre called Big Boy’s Neighborhood? It was to update the status on DETOX and to give Kendrick Lamar the shoutout to change his career.
Although they didn’t go into too much detail about it, he mentioned a music-subscription service venture that he’s had in the works for two years, and should be out by the end of the year. He also gave an update on what he’s working on musically, saying Eminem is finishing up his new album. Mr. 30 years deep in the game still has the itch.

You remember Dr. Dre’s 2001 film The Wash, right? Well, we do. Especially because of the soundtrack, which spun out this West Coast banger, “Bad Intentions” from Dr. Dre and Knoc-Turn’Al. This track was on infinite rotation, on the radio, as well as our own CD players back in 2002 after the single officially dropped and still goes hard to this day. The visual took Dre and Knoc to a house named Bad Intentions, where your fantasy is our reality. Sounds like paradise. They say a party ain’t a party until the West at it.
The Dr. Dre-produced beat for the track also showed up in the Nas/Jay-Z beef, as Hov used it for “Super Ugly” (his below-the-belt response to “Ether”). But when it’s all said and done it always goes back to The Takeover vs. Ether anyway.
We’re still missing DETOX, Dre.

The good doctor is 48 today!
It’s crazy to think, especially since it seems like just yesterday that we grew up with The Chronic. Growing up on the West Coast, that album was one of the first Hip-Hop albums that ever graced our ears and made such an impact as a kid. Although we weren’t in Los Angeles during the riots, the project still resonated as the soundtrack to California for years to come. You couldn’t escape the Dre tracks from bumping out of car speakers down the street, as all the OG’s kept the album in heavy rotation.
By the time 2001 was released in 1999, we were already well versed in The Chronic and still remember being one of the first to cop the album the day it dropped. Eminem’s involvement on the album also had us hype, as his buzz was still growing at that time. At a deep 23 tracks, every song flowed into each other and remarkably didn’t have any fillers. Unfortunately, our 2001 CD was stolen from our CD case years later by some punks (shout out to the bright green marijuana leaf on the actual disc), which we still miss to this day.
So today, as you go about your day, be sure to play a Dr. Dre track or two (or a whole album) and put one in the air for one of the greatest producers of all time.

If you don’t know all the words to “Forgot About Dre” at this point, then we don’t know what to tell you. The GRAMMY Award winning second single from Dr. Dre’s 2001 album was a HUGE success, and it addresses all the haters doubting Andre (shots at Death Row) at the time. He came back with a vengeance, making it known that there’s absolutely no reason why you should have forgotten about the doctor.
The most entertaining part of the video had to be Eminem’s news skit, which dodged questions from Jane Yamamoto about what caused the fire at the home.

While it’s apparent the role Dr. Dre played in helping Kendrick Lamar with his debut album good kid m.A.A.d city in 2012, it looks like Dre has had his ear on someone else making noise in LA as well, Problem. In this short clip, we can see the two in the studio working, as only time will tell what the duo cooked up. One thing is for sure, Problem has various projects on the way this year, so things are only going to heat up.
His collaborative project with Iamsu!, Million Dollar Afro, is due out real soon while his Gangsta Grillz with DJ Drama titled The Separation will be released later this year.

Rick Ross Invades Las Vegas With Dr. Dre
The biggest bawse, Ricky Rozay was in Sin City to get in touch with the people at the Marquee Nightclub and Lounge and have a good time as well in the process. While on hand, Dr. Dre made a special guest appearance with Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and DJ Sam Sneak to come in support Ross.
Sporting his Beats by Dre shirt, he spoke on a conversation with Dr. Dre saying the only way to make it to a 100 million which is Everyday “I’m Hustlin.” After a performance of that classic, he jumped into a solo performance of “3 Kings” as the video concluded with a brief promo for his upcoming sixth studio album “Mastermind.”

This past weekend, one of the most iconic and classic albums in Hip-Hop history, Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, turned 20 years old. The album can still be heard blaring through speakers across the West Coast as it still makes an impact today, influencing plenty of young up and comers in music. It’s truly one album that never gets old.
“Dre Day” was a single from the album that was a verbal assault on Eazy-E, Tim Dog and Luke Campbell. The video sees “Sleazy-E” acting a fool throughout (in various situations), as Dre and Snoop hold it down for L.A. and gain a huge following. It spawned the classic response from Eazy on “Real MuthaPhuckkin G’s” as one of Hip-Hop’s most notable beefs, and it continued up until shortly before Eazy died in March of 1995.
If you get a chance to ride out to some gangsta shit this week, pay homage and blast that classic West Coast funk. At least until DETOX drops (if ever).

Locking down the top spot for Highest-Paid Musicians in the world, is the good doctor from Compton, Dr. Dre. Without an album out in more than a decade, Andre cashes out with $110M made for the year, in part to his venture with Beats by Dre. No other rappers even hit the list until Diddy tied with Katy Perry for the #15 spot.

2. Roger Waters ($88 million)
3. Elton John ($80 million)
4. U2 ($78 million)
5. Take That ($69 million)
Other notable mentions on the list are: Rihanna, who came in with the #11 spot, ahead of Lady Gaga, who was at #12. Jay-Z and Beyonce came in at #20 and #18 respectively, and Adele/Kanye West tied for the #22 spot to round out the top 25.

The visual keeps it player as the Doc and company (Chris Tucker and Nia Long all made cameos) party it up inside an airplane hangar, taking over air control. Classic West Coast music.

What Dr. Dre’s “DETOX” Sounds Like
Ah, that Rap myth we call Detox. It’s quite the bigfoot tall tale that’s been told for the past decade. It’s coming out! It gets delayed. A track that’s supposed to be on the album surfaces! The project gets pushed back again. Dr. Dre officially releases a single! Then falls back for years. Detox must be a love-hate relationship for the doctor.
To have this much anticipation, and to not come correct is probably his biggest worry. He’s got two classic albums in the stash already. How could he ever top The Chronic or 2001? It has to be absolutely perfect, at the LEAST.
Many people have given up on Detox, and we must admit, we did too for a bit. That is until we heard “Compton” from Kendrick Lamar’s good kid m.A.A.d city. That’s when it finally hit us: Dr. Dre has been giving out bits and pieces of the album throughout the years & we hardly even noticed. We could essentially make our own Detox right now if we wanted to.
