Disney Closes LucasArts, Star Wars 1313 Status Unclear
Last year, Disney acquired the assets Lucasfilm and LucasArts for $4.05Billion which looked to be a promising long-term conglomerate for the movie and video game franchise paired with one of the world’s top corporations; but earlier today, Game Informer obtained an official release statement from Disney announcing the closing of LucasArts.
“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”
Over the past years, LucasArts has had non-success with the Star Wars video game franchise’s in releases such as Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, Star Wars: The Old Republic and Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Republic Heroes). Each of those titles had been well-recepted in the gaming community and major gaming publication by reviews; but never matched up with sales quotas. One of the titles we had been looking forward to was the first person shooter Star Wars 1313 (trailer after the jump) which left many jaws to the floor after its e3 2012 trailer reveal. A representative from LucasArts went on to say,

Unreal Engine 4 “Infiltrator” Tech Video

Click Image To Watch. *This Is A Tech Video Not An Actual Video Game*
The Unreal Engine 4 has been in development for nearly a decade with an official visual trailer finally released to get a sense of what to expect on next-generation Sony and Microsoft consoles. Last year during the 2012 Game Developers Conference, a private screening for the new engine was unveiled to those in attendance which prompted whispers swirling around the gaming community about the new technology we would see in the future and how stunning it looked in comparison to current gen.
Over the summer on GameTrailers TV, that same demo was finally released to the public giving us a look at the different type of environments we would encounter in future releases. With the recent released CryEngine3 just two years ago, the new tech demo for Unreal Engine 4 dismisses any questions whether it will be the best engine on the market. Fans of blockbuster series Mass Effect, Gears of War, BioShock and Batman have something to look forward to in the future if this is what will be consuming our free time. Platforms: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Developer: EA Digital Illusions CE
Last week we saw a teaser trailer for the next installment in the Battlefield series, and some gamers thought there wasn’t enough footage shown for it to be considered an “official” trailer. Luckily, Battlefield has now redeemed themselves with a 17-minute visually mind-blowing video of gameplay.
While Electronic Arts’ Battlefield still remains number 2 in the first-person shooter department (see: Activision’s prized possession “Call of Duty” in its rear view mirror), the development team D.I.C.E. (EA Digital Illusions CE) behind the BF series is making the necessary steps to close the gap with attracting the masses. While the COD franchise nearly doubles the sales of Battlefield, we should find out if console consumers are ready to make a switch in their personal online multiplayer sessions.
Today, we get the first official trailer for the thirteenth installment in the franchise and follow up to Battlefield 3. The official unveiling took place earlier during San Francisco’s 2013 Game Developers Conference, as we got a glimpse of the new implemented Frostbite 3 technology in its first time being utilizing for the franchise.
