The Lakers season hasn’t gone as much of us would expect initially as Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol and Jordan Hill will be out of actions for the Lakeshows upcoming Texas trip to face the Houston Rockets & the San Antonio Spurs.
They’ve been listed out indefinitely as Dwight has a torn labrum in his right shoulder to go along with his back injury he’s been trying to play through this year. Gasol has a concussion he suffered Sunday night in a loss to Nuggets that left his nose bloody while Jordan Hill is dealing with a right hip injury.
As the NBA all-star break is nearing, the Lakers are in a bad predicament right now as the team could finish as a 7th or 8th seed and even missing the entire 2013 playoffs.
The Lakers have dealt with internal problems the entire season with the firing of Mike Brown after a 1-4 start, not hiring Phil Jackson over Mike D’Antoni (you can read that again) and being without Nash for the bulk of the thus far.
While all of these things have occurred, Kobe Bryant has went on record saying he feels like this is his best season in his 17-year career. As Kobe’s career is nearing, he’s content with exiting the NBA as he’s won five NBA rings with consecutive NBA Finals MVPs.
The Lakers fans might not be ready for the team to rebuild and watch their in-house Clippers rivals steadily rise to elite status. It might be a tough pill to swallow purple n gold fans as the team has lost three consecutive games to start the new year as a loss tonight could further that streak with a prime-time game against the Spurs set tomorrow.
