One of the biggest albums to come out of the West Coast in a long time, Kendrick Lamar’s Aftermath debut good kid m.A.A.d city, has been on HEAVY rotation the past couple of days here at OnSMASH. We’re sure plenty of folks across the world feel the same way, as we try to decoded Kendrick’s whole story listen after listen. We feel so strong about the album, we bought two copies and we’re ready to cop the Target deluxe edition too, just for those Black Hippy remixes. You and I know, K Dot deserves to win.
What’s so special about Kendrick’s run is the fact that we’ve witnessed it from the jump. From first watching his “A Little Appalled” freestyle, to Black Hippy blessing us with an exclusive freestyle back in 2009 leading up to the Kendrick Lamar EP (for those who didn’t know, good kid m.A.A.d city is a prequel to everything he’s released up to now).
The attention to detail. The way tracks on the album all relate to each other and even lead back to past projects, is truly special. Kendrick has been wanting to tell this story from the jump. It’s an audio movie that makes you want to read the book.
Today we pay homage to good kid m.A.A.d city and pick our favorite tracks on the album (ALL OF THEM), but most of all, from all of us here at OnSMASH, we want to say thank you to Kendrick Lamar for this album. It’s a remarkable work of music.
Let us know your favorite track in the comments!
